A candy commercial in Japan set fans of supergroup AKB 48 atwitter last week when it appeared the iconic 61-member all-female act had added a 62nd member, one Aimi Eguchi. But looks can be deceiving. After conspiracy theorists and fans spent a week swapping fervor, curiosity, and eventual skepticism across the Nets, the truth came out: Aimi Eguchi isn’t real. She’s a composite of the “best features” of six other AKB 48 members.

So which one is Aimi Eguchi? See if you can pick her out in the ad:

So maybe it’s not so difficult knowing what you know beforehand, since she’s kind of front and center. But you have to admit it’s difficult to tell. The skeptics apparently began to catch on when it turned out her name could be pieced together from the letters of the candy company in the ad, the specific candy being advertised, and the company’s theme song (though that itself requires a mental leap). Further, her bio listed her as a track and field competitor, and the company’s slogan is “Hitotsubu 300 meter” (no idea what that means, but it sounds like track-and-field-ey).

Then there’s the fact that you can piece Aimi’s face together from the faces of the other six girls in the video below. Take a look:

So a candy company made a fake 62nd member for a group already a bit crowded with real talent. That’s not so mind-blowing, particularly in Japan where singingand dancing robots and hologramshave been embraced by audiences. The really interesting questions is: will fans of AKB 48 accept Aimi--even clamor for more of her--knowing that she’s not real? As Peter Murray asks on Singularity Hub: is the world ready to embrace celebrity personalities that aren’t persons?

Those that do will have to learn to do without the embarrassing Weinerisms and Sheen-esque meltdowns that make celebrity-following so much fun (unless they are scripted, of course). lingerie model Jessica Cambensy risks career to steal HK$600: Busty Hong Kong model Jessica Cambensy is out on bail after Hong Kong police charged her for theft on Monday, following a four hour-long visit to a police station in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Police alleged that Cambensy, the spokesmodel for a large lingerie company, had taken HK$600 (S$98) which a forgetful woman had left behind at an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Tsim Sha Tsui.

According to the police, the forgetful woman realised she had not taken the money she had withdrawn from the ATM and immediately returned to collect her cash, only to find the money gone.

She then called the police and investigators found that the woman’s HK$600 vanished after Cambensy used the same ATM to withdraw money some time later.

This incident happened on July 30 last year.

Police said that they only decided to charge Cambensy on Monday because it took them

some time to gather enough evidence of her alleged theft, as security cameras did not show her taking the money.

They added that it is considered theft if an individual holds on to another’s lost property and does not report it to the police.

Cambensy, who was on her way to Taiwan to shoot an action film, appeared calm when Hong Kong media caught up with her at the airport on Tuesday, but soon broke down.

I have eclectic taste in the arts, most especially in film and music. I really couldn’t say just who or what would be to my taste. Brittany Murphy and Amy Winehouse were two young talents who touched me, who I wanted to enjoy seeing where they would go with their work. I thought they would both make “long bones”: have long, successful careers that contributed interesting creative expression in their respective fields

And I was sad when each had their beautiful flames snuffed out too soon.

Brittany Murphy first caught my eye in 8 Mile. There was something about this girl. I wondered about her and made a mental note. And with time, I enjoyed seeing where she would go. And then she did a quirky little film called Love & Other Disasters. She reminded me of a young Audrey Hepburn, à la Breakfast at Tiffany’s, in it. I loved this original accent she used for the role. See the beginning of the movie to find out where the unusual accent came from. And I personally adopted one of her expressions from it: “hello babies!” I would say to my friends. It was such a cute and endearing thing to say. Loved it.

And then one day, a friend of mine posted on facebook that she had died. Shock and sadness. No really. I wanted to see where she would go! She had a kind of beauty that just got better as she aged, just like Audrey Hepburn. Long bones in talent, long bones in physical features. And suddenly the bones would no longer grow.

And I thought about Brittany when I heard the news about Amy Winehouse’s passing, not long ago.

Another beautiful young woman, with long bones. She was a fascinating combination of the retro and fresh. This wild girl with the bouffant hairdo, tattoos, and outrageously soulful voice. Where did she come from? ? She was so different from the usual pop princess. She had blues, she had soul. She could have become an Aretha or some other beautifully aging and timeless talent. But instead she became a young Billie Holiday. Gone too soon. Too too soon, baby. The soulful curves of your voice, your songwriting, I wanted to hear more, see what you would do with that creativity over a long, long life-time.

I read a comment somewhere when she died that said “Is anyone surprised?” That remark made me sad and mad on two levels.

One, it assumed that she had a drug-related death, due to her very public, messed up liefstyle. But we don’t know yet why she died. Fact is, reports said she had a clean bill of health from a doctor just a few days before her death. And she had started putting on a healthier weight, after her struggle with an eating disorder. The second reason I was sad & mad at the comment because it was so dismissive of her identity and her tremendous talent. This girl shouldn’t have died! When I had heard that her tour had been postponed recently because she had appeared drunk on stage, I felt so sad for this lost young woman. What tremendous pressure she must have been on, to come up with more fresh material. I heard she suffered from a debilitating writer’s block as well. Imagine that! When your very public bread and butter is writing, how do you cope. No, she did not have an easy life.
