many teenagers in my facebook account that are not concerned or mindful about what appears on their facebook pages or other social media platforms. I am worried for them because I know most of them take it has harmless fun. With the latest incident with Adelyn Hosehbo, I think it serves as a good warning to other teenagers – be more mindful with what you want the world to see!

1. Do not add hundreds and thousands of “random” friends on your facebook unless you don’t mind not knowing who has access to your information. It really depends on how comfortable are you sharing your personal information online. With Adelyn Hosehbo’s facebook page, there are quite a few “friends” of hers that are mocking and scolding her publicly on facebook.

2. Check your facebook privacy settings. In Adelyn Hosehbo’s profile page, you don’t need to be her friend to see things posted on her wall. Again, how much would you want to show the world – while not knowing who is reading it.

3. Don’t post things that may potentially be harmful to yourself. Eg. Posting that you slapped your mother, stole a car, commited a murder… things like these should be kept to yourself. If I slapped my mother, I would probably be too ashamed to even tell my closest friends. Your potential employers might actually see all those on your facebook someday… Go get a diary if you really need to pen it down. I wonder if this generation people still use diary or not…

4. Don’t post your school for public to view if you are likely to get stomped. See now everyone in Singapore knows that Adelyn Hosehbo was from Marsling Secondary School. Not a very good image for your alma mater.

Facebook might finally be laying down the groundwork for a highly anticipated initial public offering, long expected to take place sometime after April 2012.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the world’s largest online social network is looking into raising as much as $10 billion in its IPO. The Journal cited people familiar with the matter but did not identify them by name.

The amount would value Facebook at as much as $100 billion, according to the report. That’s more than four times the market capitalization that Google Inc. had at the time of its 2004 IPO.

That’s the question many people are asking amid rising chatter that the booming social network plans to go public in 2012 and raise up to $10 billion in a deal that could value the company at more than $100 billion.

If Facebook’s IPO succeeds, it would be one of the largest public offerings in U.S. history and make the seven-year-old company worth more than iconic American firms like McDonald’s, Citigroup, and Kraft Foods. It would also turn founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg into one of the richest people in the world, with an estimated net worth of roughly $20 billion.

How could a company that doesn’t charge its users or make any tangible goods become one of the titans of American capitalism in less than a decade, worth $100 billion?

Facebook’s phenomenal growth has been propelled by the network effect of millions of people connected to each other by the Internet, and the increasingly sophisticated practice of targeted advertising. Zuckerberg, perhaps more than any other Internet entrepreneur of the last decade, has been able to synthesize these two trends into a wildly successful business. With nearly 1 billion users around the world, Facebook has become a truly massive web platform and serves as the primary vehicle for an ever-increasing amount of web activity and commerce.

Google remains the leader in so-called search advertising, which delivers text ads to web users based on the search terms they type into Google. But the battle is shifting to more sophisticated display ads, the bigger, more visually dynamic ads that increasingly incorporate video and sound. And in this fast-growing market, Facebook is surging, now serving nearly twice as many display ads as Google, according to eMarketer.

If Facebook does go public next year, it will likely be the penultimate act in a dramatic – and at times melodramatic – series of Internet IPOs that have occurred since the beginning of 2011. Many of the recent offerings have performed poorly, despite the predictable first-day spikes as insiders cash in quickly. Discount sales website Groupon and web-radio service Pandora have both seen their stock prices fall below their initial offering prices, pouring cold water on what some had called a nascent Internet IPO boom. Early investors got rich off Groupon, of course, but the company has been a shambles of late: It recently lost its second high-profile chief operating officer in six months and had to restate its already-unprofitable 2010 results down 50%. LinkedIn, a social network for professionals, remains above its IPO price, but is barely showing a profit.

Facebook, by contrast, is both growing rapidly and very profitable: The company is expected to post $2 billion in profit for 2011, double the previous year. Facebook is hiring like mad, gobbling up startups, and it’s just opened a massive new data center in rural Oregon. The company’s all-important profit margin – the portion of revenues it keeps after expenses – is 50%, according to industry estimates, comparable to Google’s when it went public in 2004.

By 2013, Facebook’s profit is expected to total $5 billion. Using a conservative Wall Street valuation formula for Internet companies – 20 times earnings, about the same as Google’s – Facebook’s valuation would be $100 billion. And it’s those forward-looking and fast-growing results that investors will be betting on during the IPO.

But the most convincing statistic in Facebook’s favor isn’t financial: In just the last year, it has come to dominate the sheer amount of time spent by users on the web, according to data from Citigroup, handily beating Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL.

Skeptics argue that Facebook’s profit potential is overrated, and point out that many successful Internet companies are inevitability overtaken by new, more innovative upstarts. The key question is whether Facebook will be able to transition from a phenomenally successful startup to a mature, e-commerce giant like Google or Amazon. Is Facebook worth $100 billion? Maybe not today, but the company is trading at a $70 billion valuation on private markets, and Goldman Sachs was confident enough to organize a $1.5 billion investment earlier this year for its wealthy clients. Li Ka-shing, Asia’s richest man, is also an investor.

Ultimately, Facebook, like any company, is worth what investors are willing to pay, and the effect of market psychology should not be discounted, especially when it comes to high-profile Internet stocks. If recent history is any guide, the hype – fueled by the company, its bankers, and tech pundits – may end up being more influential than any financial projection.... After nearly a month spent touting its various ethereal qualities, on Tuesday (January 24), Evanescence premiered their video for “My Heart Is Broken,” a dark, dreamlike thing that pushes Amy Lee’s claustrophobic musings to the next level. And somewhere beyond that too.

As Lee told MTV News back in December, the look and feel of the “Broken” clip was very much influenced by the British fantasy/horror flick “Paperhouse,” about a young girl who creates vivid dream worlds to escape the harsh reality of everyday life, only to eventually realize she’s stuck in those dreams — inspiration that certainly resonates with the song’s lyrics, which are very much about being trapped in a dark, desolate place and trying to free one’s self despite mounting evidence to the contrary.

Working with director Dean Karr, and aided very much by fiber-optic technology, Evanescence have created a video that is both haunting and haunted. It opens with Lee suspended in an inky void, a single light projecting from her finger. While her bandmates bash away in the blackness, she slowly begins to fill her emptiness by creating a dream world — a fallow field, a sea of stars, a crumbling room — until she eventually realizes that, in spite of her attempts, she is just as trapped as she was before.

At clip’s end, the viewer is left to wonder whether she has the power to escape (though a cracked mirror seems to indicate she can), which, in a way, only further connects the video to the song itself: Like Lee sings, each of us have within ourselves the ability to free ourselves from any situation; whether we do or not is largely our decision. 申し立てたのは土産物店「田島織物」。平成１４年から晴明神社や晴明に関する土産物の製造販売を始め、現在は店舗やインターネットで晴明ゆかりの「五芒星（ごぼうせい）」ブレスレットや厄除けネクタイなど約２千種類のグッズを販売している。

申立書などによると、昨年１１月、神社側が「神を著しく冒涜（ぼうとく）する」として、グッズを持ち込まないよう参拝者に求める看板を境内に設置。このため、店側は売り上げが約３割減少し、営業権を侵害されたとして１２月に仮処分を申し立てた。

The Court of Appeal has upheld a landmark ruling that gives priority to company pensioners - ahead of creditor banks and bondholders - when those companies become insolvent.

Today's decision is a victory for the Government's Pensions Regulator.

But critics warned the ruling could deter lenders to businesses and "impact on corporate Britain's ability to sustain any sort of recovery".

The appeal was brought by administrators acting for the estates of two bankrupt firms.

The bank Lehman Brothers has pension scheme liabilities of £125 million and the Canadian telecoms group Nortel Networks £2.1bn.

Appeal judges Lord Justice Laws, Lord Justice Lloyd and Lord Justice Rimer unanimously backed a ruling by Mr Justice Briggs in the High Court last December that UK law requires that the pensioners get paid before the banks who have lent the bankrupt company money.

Lord Justice Lloyd said that "despite the oddities, anomalies and inconveniences" of the High Court decision, it was right not least because the only alternative would be that the pension scheme liabilities would "go into a black hole".

The appeal judge said: "That cannot have been the intention of Parliament."

The case may now go to the Supreme Court for a final ruling.

Under section 75 of the Pensions Act 1995, a company sponsoring a defined benefits pension scheme can be obliged to make up any shortfall between the scheme's assets and its liabilities. ... READ MORE

Singapore will host the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Canoe Marathon World Championships from Oct 19 to 23 at The Float@Marina Bay.

This is the first time the World Championships is taking place in Asia.

Close to 600 athletes and officials from over 40 countries are expected to compete in six different race categories such as the juniors, senior and masters' categories.

Distances range from 17 km to 30 km.

2010 world champions in the K1-Senior Men and K1-Senior Women categories, Ben Brown and Renata Csay will also be taking part.

Singapore will field 28 athletes, the largest contingent ever.

In addition to the championships, the 2011 ICF Canoe Marathon Masters World Cup will also take place from Oct 19 to 20.

A line of 357 women clad in bikinis and pink visors marched one mile down the beach in Gold Coast, Australia, to break the world record for biggest bikini parade. Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records monitored the event and confirmed that the Cayman Islands' previous record of 331 had been broken.

Gold Coast Bulletin News spoke with Hannah Lindgren, a participant in the parade. "The Gold Coast is all about beautiful women and beautiful beaches," she said. "It is the perfect place to hold the bikini parade." Organizers are hopeful that the parade will change public perception of Gold Coast as a crime capital.

Predictably, the parade may have served as a distraction for some. Sky News spoke with Australian lifeguards on duty. "We've been trying to watch the water... but we have been having difficulty patrolling the beach," one reportedly said.
