It certainly didn’t take long for things to get dramatic in the split between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries … just like it didn’t take long for them to split in the first place. But what really went wrong and whose fault was it?

As soon as the reality star filed divorce papers on Monday — a good 72 days after their over-the-top televised “fairytale” wedding — her soon-to-be-ex-husband fired off a statement declaring he was “devastated” by her move and wanted to save the marriage.

But team Kim is already circling the wagons. Her camp tells TMZ that the socialite was put off by the fact that Kris, who claimed to want a simple life with her in Minnesota, hired a publicist right after they decided to split.

Her pals charge that the basketball player — now unemployed due to the NBA lockout — was “chasing fame” on his bride’s coattails.

However, one blog report prior to the official breakup alleged that before hooking up with Kris, Kim had been shopping for an NBA player to start dating. And after their nuptials were documented by E!, “she carried on doing all of her personal appearances, and filming round the clock for ‘Kourtney and Kim take New York,’” says a New York Post source who explains that “Kim didn’t want to change her lifestyle once she was married.”

“She and Kris didn’t spend any time together as husband and wife, they even had cameras on the honeymoon,” noted the insider. “As soon as they came back, they went into filming the show in New York, and had no time to be alone. There were cameras on them 24/7.”

Well, if both of them were into the fame and publicity, what was the problem?

Father Figure?

Elisabetta Canalis says her romance with George Clooney was like a “father-daughter relationship.” The Italian beauty, 33, spent two years with the actor-director, 50.

“He has been special for me, and very important, just as a father would be,” the recent “Dancing With the Stars” hopeful told journalist Bruno Vespa. She said that “between us there was more of a father- daughter relationship. I was unable to clarify this up till now.”

She adds that it wasn’t because of George’s refusal to settle down that they went their separate ways this past June, as rumored.

“George and I never spoke of marriage nor of having kids,” Elisabetta declares. “I don’t put limits to the possibility of having them, but neither George nor I had ever envisaged having kids together. The end of the relationship was not caused by a marriage issue, but instead by our personal needs.”

Hmm ... is the “father-daughter” remark just Elisabetta’s way of putting down her ex with a snide comment about his age?

Mummy’s the Word

After allegedly holding out on announcing her obvious pregnancy in hopes of a payoff that never materialized, Jessica Simpson finally revealed on Halloween via Twitter that “it’s true — I’m going to be a mummy” (while sharing a picture of herself dressed up as a mummy — get it?).

“It is Halloween, and it was always [Jessica’s] idea to announce being pregnant along with her mummy costume,” said the singer turned designer’s rep.

But the announcement probably didn’t go off quite as the future Mrs. Eric Johnson had hoped: Unfortunately for Jess, news of Kim Kardashian’s divorce broke that same day, upstaging her baby tweet.

Oh, the injustice!... READ MORE
