'Dancing With the Stars' Semi-Finals Weeks IX

The most bittersweet elimination of the season took place on 'Dancing With the Stars' (Tue., 9PM ET on ABC). To come one week shy of the finale is absolutely brutal, but each of the remaining contestants was all smiles. Simply making it this far is quite an achievement, and all four have proven themselves talented and worthy of their place.

This week Hope Solo struggled the most with the judges, but J.R. Martinez wasn't so far ahead on points that a surge of public support couldn't save her. Rob Kardashian and Ricki Lake were probably feeling pretty safe, but we've seen bigger surprises in the past.

We just didn't see one this week: Hope Solo and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy were eliminated. Hopefully this means we won't get any petty bickering between the judges and the contestants in next week's finale. But the big question remains: Who will take home the coveted Mirror Ball trophy?

While Lake and Martinez have been strong almost from the beginning, Kardashian has been more of a late bloomer. But he's really come into his own in recent weeks. It really does seem like victory is within grasp for each of them.... READ MORE

After an emotional performance show, in which Maks lost his cool with Len, it was bound to be a tenseelimination on 'Dancing With the Stars' (Tue., 8PM ET on ABC). Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his partner, Hope Solo, scored a 20 from the judges, which was better than only one other couple, Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer, who got 19.

Audience votes make up the difference of the vote, obviously, which had to leave Maks and Hope sweating waiting for the final word. We've seen how their fellow contestants felt, many of whom felt he may have crossed the line. Would America agree?

SPOILER ALERT

Reality audiences generally respond negatively too arrogance and disrespect, as we've seen in the past with contestants like Chris Daughtry on 'American Idol.' Chmerkovskiy, though, has always ridden that fine line as the resident cocky bad boy of 'DWTS.' But with a one-point difference, and Bono's enduring popularity, would Solo pay the price for his attitude this week?

Tom Bergeron left the couple dangling until the end, but it was finally time to say good-bye to Chaz Bono, who was graceful in his departure. He dedicated his experience to all the young people out there struggling with who they are, and he hopes that he could fill the role in their lives that no one in the public eye was able to when he was a child.... Jason Donovan wowed the Strictly Come Dancing judges for a third week running and confirmed himself as a favourite to win the BBC One show.

The Australian and his dance partner Kristina Rihanoff left the four judges spellbound with a tango to I Will Survive, earning a score of 36 out of 40.

Notoriously difficult to please, Craig Revel Horwood told the actor the performance was "stupendous". Italian judge Bruno Tonioli added: "As camp as Christmas - fantastic." And veteran Len Goodman said: "I am going to call you the midwife because you keep delivering."
