Top 5 Best-Dressed Fashion SAG Awards Red Carpet 2012

Top 5 Best-Dressed Fashion SAG Awards Red Carpet 2012

The 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held last night, and as with other award shows, the stars were out on the red carpet, which means we have plenty of fabulous fashion to discuss! Scroll on down to scope out some of the most notable looks from the event:

Michelle Williams in Valentino

Photo: PR Photos
Michelle Williams always rocks demure, vintage-inspired frocks and last night was no exception. Her classic red Valentino gown was adorned with feminine lace detailing and Michelle added some red sandals and a crimson box clutch. What did you think of her head-to-toe red look?

Shailene Woodley in L’Wren Scott

Photo: PR Photos
The SAG Awards are more laid back than the Golden Globes or Oscars, so I love that The Descendants’ Shailene Woodley chose to wear this really fun, young, and colorful L’Wren Scott gown. The Hawaiian-like print seemed to be a nod to her film’s setting and the baby blue hue with pops of red made a statement. Shailene kept her hair and makeup low-key, in order to let the dress be the focus.

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

Photo: PR Photos
SAG Award winner Octavia Spencer was one of the first stars I saw on the red carpet last night, but I kept thinking about her silver Tadashi Shoji gown the entire time! The shimmery dress had a great mix of textures — a delicate floral-applique top and super-flattering, silky wrap skirt. Octavia also sported a sleek updo, which really showcased her lovely statement earrings.

Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen

Photo: PR Photos
Emma Stone killed it fashion-wise at the Golden Globes a few weeks ago and she once again looked amazing at last night’s ceremony. Her tea-length Alexander McQueen dress channeled Old Hollywood, while the sky-high ankle strap pumps and gold-handled clutch kept the look modern and youthful. Can this girl do no wrong?!

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Couture

Photo: PR Photos
This little number from the Givenchy Spring ’12 couture collection had a lot of fashion commentators on the fence, but I for one was in love with this dress. The gown has a kind of edgy-meets-glam vibe and while not everyone could pull off what is essentially a white tank under a mesh top, Zoe did it flawlessly.

Welcome to awards show season, CF readers! For the next full month, we’ll be recapping all of the major red carpet events — the SAG Awards, the Grammys and — of course – the Academy Awards. We’re kicking things off with a fashion recap of last night’s Golden Globe Awards. Scroll on to check out our favorite looks from last night:

Nicole Richie in Julien Macdonald

Photo: PR Photos
Presenter Nicole Richie donned a slinky, floor-skimming Julien Macdonald number at the Globes this year. Her super-shiny metallic gown looked lovely on the red carpet and Nicole completed her look with a voluminous, ’60s-esque ponytail, vintage earrings and accessories from her House of Harlow 1960 line.

Claire Danes in J. Mendel

Photo: PR Photos
Last night Claire Danes rocked a J. Mendel gown that was meant to be viewed from behind.  While the front her dress was a little tame, the gorgeous cut-out back skyrocketed it to the top of my list. The sparkly sequined detailing made this gown a true standout on the red carpet.

Emma Stone in Lanvin

Photo: ELLE
Disclaimer: I have a HUGE girl crush on Emma Stone, however, I don’t think that it influenced my decision to include her on best-dressed list. In fact, I would have loved this Lanvin gown on anyone, but the fact that Emma wore it made it all the more perfect. The luxe velvet, burgundy hues mixed with fuchsia, and eagle-adorned belt all made this frock a winner in my book.

Charlize Theron in Dior Couture

Photo: ELLE
Charlize proved that it definitely pays to be Dior’s spokesperson by wearing a beautiful couture gown created by the design house. Her pale pink ’20s-style gown featured a deep, plunging neckline and sculptural bustle, and she completed her look with a side-swept updo adorned with a jeweled headband.

Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci Premiere

Photo: ELLE
Every red carpet needs a little extravagance, so I was happy to see Evan Rachel Wood rocking this couture gown at the Globes last night. This sequined and feather-adorned Gucci gown exuded Old Hollywood glamour with a modern twist. Texturally, it looks amazing and I really loved the gradient of dark green shades. What did you think of Evan’s look?

Resort 2012 collections are being presented in New York this June. These are holiday, party-time clothes and designers feel free to experiment but they also follow the leading trends for 2012.

Resort 2012 fashion trend: batik scarf dresses
The caftan, a holiday signature style, is this summer's ultimate chic sartorial choice so I wonder if these 2012 resort trends will become fashion hits for next summer. What first draw my atention was these batik inspired dresses, actually they look like batik printed scarves stitched together to form a fabulous beach cover-ups. Alberta Ferretti's designs look more like sophisticated city-chic clothes.

Resort 2012 fashion trend: handkerchief hem dresses
The second trend is the uneven handkerchief-hem (or the illusion of it - see BCBG Max Azria design) on a graphic printed frock. They somewhat recall the 1920s - flapper era - flouncing dresses, as you can see for yourself from these pictures of vintage slip-ons. So, what do you think of these new trends?

No Kardashians and no Katy Perry made for a quiet start to 2012 at the People's Choice Awards.

A dressed-down crowd including, Twilight star Robert Pattinson in jeans and Crazy, Stupid, Love's Emma Stone in a t-shirt, skipped the red carpet at the first awards show of the season at the Nokia Theatre in LA.

The awards, which are determined by public votes, were hosted by The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco, who got through 27 wardrobe changes after fending off veteran awards show master of ceremonies Neil Patrick Harris, who stormed the stage during the opening to perform a show tune.

Hugh Jackman took out the statuette for the Best Action Movie Star while Ellen DeGeneres was awarded favourite daytime TV host.

Soon after Emma Stone accepted her awards for Favourite Movie Actress and Favourite Comedic Actress, Jim Carrey's ex-wife Jenny McCarthy took to Twitter, "Emma Stone just won a People's Choice Award. I know someone that must be very excited about that" she posted in reference to Carrey declaring his love for the titian haired actress via video message last year.

Katy Perry, who pulled out of appearing, won five of the seven awards she was nominated for including Favourite Female Artist and also took out Favourite TV Guest Star for her cameo appearance in How I Met Your Mother.

Other winners included Glee star Lea Michele, Taylor Swift and the final Harry Potter instalment Part 2: Deathly Hallows won four awards, including Best Movie.

Rihanna trumped her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown and close friend Beyonce by taking out the gong for Best R&B Artist while Kim Kardashian took out the award for Favourite Celebreality Star.

Fellow nominee in the same category, Kathy Griffin didn't waste any time with pleasantries telling reporters on the red carpet that Kardashian's ex-husband Kris Humphries will "come back big in 2012 by dating Kendall Jenner."

On the cusp of turning 90, Hot In Cleveland star Betty White lapped up the praise from her celebrity fans all night with a number of A-listers, including Pattinson, lining up to have their photo taken with the veteran actress.

"I didn't do anything. 90 just happens to you," she said as she accepted the award for Favourite Cable TV Comedy.

Country singer Faith Hill and ex-Disney star and Best Pop Artist winner Demi Lovato performed in front of the casually clad crowd.... READ MORE

With Leather readers, is one of those wonderful days when I get to share with you a brand new Kate Upton photoshoot. This one is for the LOLA Cruise 2012 Collection, and the pictures are so good I am going to buy a gross of swimsuits and leave them to rot in a storage unit somewhere just to say how grateful I am to the designers.

What you need to know:

1. Kate Upton was once in the "Sports Illustrated" and swimming can be a sport, so this counts as sports.

2. The gallery features Kate modeling every swimsuit in the collection, and she makes sure to give you a clear view of the front and a clear view of the back, so you'll have an educated opinion on what to purchase and/or pass out and wake up with your credit cards maxed out.

3. Near the end of the collection it stops being about swimsuits and turns into circus cosplay, which is still not great for animals, but is a step up from sexily milking a cow.

4. Clicking the pictures takes you to a bigger version. You should click every single one.

Hopefully you've ignored this list and are already clicking through. The gallery comes to you by way of our friends at Popaholic, so please take a moment to patronize them when you're done, uh, patronizing yourself.

The glamour model turned businesswoman - who recently split from boyfriend Leandro Penna - left little to the imagination in a sheer black lace jumpsuit as she attended birthday celebrations for boxer David Haye at London's Paramount Club.

However she did protect her modesty with black underwear worn underneath the skimpy garment - and teamed the ensemble with towering black stilettoes.

And she appeared to enjoy her night out, looking slightly the worse for wear when she emerged from the birthday bash - which was attended by other celebrity guests including Linford Christie.

Price was spotted clinging on to a friend's arm when she left the club, suggesting she may well have had one too many during the bash.

It is the latest in a string of nights out she has enjoyed recently, suggesting that she is making the most of her newly single status.

Price has remained largely quiet about her split from Argentinian model Penna, except to say that they broke up some time ago.

However, she has revealed that they have remained on good terms, saying, 'We actually split a long time ago but we're still really good friends. It's all cool. We got on but it didn't work out, it was just one of those things.'

But yesterday she covered up her famous figure in spectacular style – by donning a burka. The reality show star was visiting Dubai with her mum, Kris Jenner. And while in the gulf state, the pair visited one of the many shops that specialises in the traditional Islamic garment. The two women laughed as they took pictures of each other in the garb, which many women in the middle east wear. The pair then sparked pandemonium when they walked the streets in their new purchases. And bodyguards were forced to hold hands to protect them from screaming fans.

Kim, who wed basketball star Kris Humphries in August, flew to Dubai earlier this week. And she has been having a blast there - tweeting often. On the first day of her break she wrote : "Wow I'm in such awe over Dubai! My hotel is so insane, can't wait to do some blogs & show u guys! Too much to tweet! I'm obsessed with Dubai!"

And this morning she tweeted: "Good morning Dubai! I'm having the best time here! I got some amazing traditional souvenirs to bring home to the fam, they're gonna love!" She also used the time in the trendy destination to catch up with an old childhood pal. Yestersday she said: "My good friend from 7th grade moved here years ago & I haven't seen her in 18 years! We had dinner tonight, Cant believe we connected!!!

ANOREXIA GOES HIGH TECH....THINSPRIRATIONS

Developing an eating disorder is no easy task. Becoming an anorexic, for example, requires months, even years, of obsessive, destructive tunnel vision. Anorexia demands absolute, single-minded dedication. It’s exhausting — and it can be extraordinarily lonely.

That’s where technology comes in. Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, anorexics and would-be anorexics around the globe can access more than 400 web sites designed solely for them. Need to know how to disguise your weight loss so concerned (read: jealous) friends will stop hounding you to eat? Looking for a few words of support as you launch into your latest deprivation diet? Or perhaps you’d like to know the tricks for satisfying that pesky weekly weigh-in at the doctor’s office?

Bringing the darkness to light

Beyond their obvious “ick” factor, the sites provide a fascinating insight into the world of anorexics. For eating disorder educators, the very language of the sites can provide invaluable hints into a troubled psyche. “I think some of these sites are worded in a way that indicates the hosts do want help,” says Vivian Meehan, president and founder of the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, or ANAD. “They’re putting themselves out there. But then they also put up a defense against it. Don’t come on the site if you’re only interested in putting us down.”

That psychology plays out almost to the letter on one of the most visible pro-anorexia sites (or “pro-ana,” as devotees call them), known as “My Goddess Ana.” Accused in the press of perpetuating a deadly disease, the site’s 20-year-old creator offers this reply. “The opening page of the site clearly stipulates that the content of the site is Pro-Anorexic and should not be viewed by those who are in recovery or are thinking about recovery, or who, indeed, do not suffer from an ED. If you are reading this as an objector to Pro-Ana sites, why did you enter in the first place when the entrance page has told you not to?”... READ MORE

Kim Kardashian didn't let last-minute wedding details get in the way of showing off her curves at last night's VH1 Do Something Awards show in Hollywood.

People magazine has snagged the rights to Kim Kardashian's wedding to Kris Humpries, set to take place Saturday in Montecito, Calif.

Celeb gossiper Rob Shuter told Kathie Lee Gifford (who has an invitation to the wedding) and Hoda Kotb this morning on Today that seven photographers and eight camera crews will be on hand. E!, of course, will air the wedding as a special in October.

"This is our royal wedding," said Shuter. There will be tight security, including metal detectors to prevent anyone from bringing in cameras or cell phones so that images will not get out.

Although Tyra Banks revealed she doesn’t know if she’s invited to the big wedding next weekend, at the 2011 Do Something Awards she did indicate that Kim Kardashian asked her for input on her wedding dress as they chatted on the red carpet. Find out more after the jump!

OK! NEWS: TYRA BANKS TALKS ABOUT DORM LIFE, SAYS “IT’S LIKE SUMMER CAMP”

Tyra told reporters, “She was asking me about her wedding dress! She wants to show me her wedding dress, her two, and help her decide. So that was flattering. So I think we’re gonna do that.”

And if you think Kim gave Tyra any hints as to what they are, think again. The talk show host/executive producer/entrepreneur/supermodel/Harvard student added, “I have no idea but I will know but I can’t tell y’all.”

OK! NEWS: TYRA BANKS WORRIES ABOUT HER LOOKS

She did, however, tell OK! that Kim should go with a gown that’s “tight as hell because she’s got those curves and she needs to show everybody just how fine she is when she walks down the aisle.”

OK! NEWS: TYRA BANKS SUED BY SEX TEEN ADDICT’S MOM

Whether or not Tyra will be there to see Kim dash down the aisle is a whole other story. When asked what she’ll wear to the celebration, she exclaimed, “Oh, I don’t know if I’m invited! I’m just gonna help pick out the dress.”

Is this Michelle Obama's stylist? The White House aide rumoured to be First Lady's unofficial fashion advisor

Since her husband's inauguration in 2008, Michelle Obama has maintained that she does not use a stylist.
But it seems the U.S. First Lady is not without help when it comes to her fashion-forward - if sometimes controversial - style.

Political bloggers have named White House aide Meredith Koop as the sartorial secret weapon behind Mrs Obama's look.

Stylist? Meredith Koop pictured leaving the White House with Barack Obama's assistant Reggie Love. The aide is said to be behind Michelle Obama's fashion choices

According to Politico.com, the 28-year-old plays a 'pivotal role' in the President's wife's clothing choices, and is believed to be behind the controversial Alexander McQueen dress worn by Mrs Obama to a state dinner earlier this month.
Little is known about the redhead, who works in the East Wing of the White House. The site was alerted to the aide's involvement in the First Lady's wardrobe by a hairstylist who has worked with her.

Miss Koop is not the only person to have been tipped as an unofficial stylist to Mrs Obama, though she is the first based in Washington.
Controversial: Mr and Mrs Obama at a State dinner earlier this month, for which she wore a design by late British designer Alexander McQueen, rather than a gown by an American designer

Chicago boutique owner Ikram Goldman was long credited with helping Mrs Obama with her style, and many of the First Lady's outfits were purchased at her store.

Both parties remain tight-lipped about the matter, though Goldman confirmed that Mrs Obama has shopped at her store for years.
But the Mrs O blog believes that Mrs Obama has stopped working with Goldman in recent months as she has started wearing a different array of designers, not available from the Chicago retailer.

Confident: Speaking on Good Morning America, Mrs Obama defended her choice of dress and urged women to wear what makes them feel comfortable
'
Mrs. Obama's repertoire of designers has expanded drastically in recent months, to include new names such Dries Van Noten, Marc Jacobs, Roksanda Ilincic, and even vintage Norman Norell,' it read.
It speculated that Miss Koop is the influence behind this change.

'Why the move away from Ikram?' it continued. 'Logistics and location are one possibility. It may simply be more convenient to have someone Washington-based at the helm of Mrs Obama's complex wardrobe.'
Style icon: Mrs Obama with designer Jason Wu, whose white, off-the-shoulder chiffon gown she wore at her husband's inauguration

Elegant: Mrs Obama wearing an Isabel Toledo dress for her husband's inauguration in 2008

Famously supportive of emerging fashion talent, financial analysts say that Mrs Obama has boosted the economic value of the brands she chooses to wear by $2.7billion.

Criticism: Oscar de la Renta believes that Mrs Obama should wear more American designers to State occasions

But the First Lady hit headlines earlier this month when she wore an Alexander McQueen dress to a State dinner rather than a gown by an American designer.

Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, told Women's Wear Daily: 'My understanding is that the visit was to promote American-Chinese trade.
'American products in China and Chinese products in America. Why do you wear European clothes?'

Diane Von Furstenberg, president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, told the same publication: 'Our First Lady Michelle Obama has been wonderful at promoting our designers, so we were surprised and a little disappointed not to be represented for this major state dinner.'

But Mrs Obama hit back at her critics on Good Morning America, insisting that she will continue to dress in the clothes that make her comfortable - regardless of the label.
She said: 'Look, women, wear what you love.

'That's all I can say. That's my motto. I wear what I like because...I gotta be in the dress, so...'
