It was a baptism most beautiful for the new world No.1, who sprayed a squadron of international media with champagne, toasting a long night of celebrations.
Melbourne served a stunning backdrop as the 22-year-old held aloft her first grand slam trophy and was applauded by fans and tourists on passing ferries.
After little sleep, the glamorous champ admitted she was still letting it all sink in.
"I slept about four hours and was back on my computer trying to answer all my messages," Azarenka said. "I didn't have much sleep. I was thinking too much."
