SINGAPORE: The annual Chingay Parade, held as part of Lunar New Year celebrations, promises a spectacular celebration of love.
Its theme this year is "Love, Care and Kindness Everywhere".
The event, which is into its 40th year, will take place on February 3 and 4 at the Pit Building, next to the Singapore Flyer.
As we usher in the Year of the Dragon, the parade will see an all dragon segment in its opening.
This year, Chingay will celebrate its 40th anniversary and for the first time, the parade will be injected with a variety of theatrical effects and the highlight is the waterway parade.
Kannagi Illamaran, a Chingay participant, said: "The specialty of this year is dancing on the waterway which is definitely the most awesome part. While the parade promises high octane action and a burst of colour, it also aims to promote bonding between new citizens and local residents.
Tey Xi Wi, a Malaysian national, said: "I'm a Chinese and I'm taking part in the Indian dance so it's even more special. I get to know the different races and learn the Indian dance together. Very fun. Different races taking part, the teamwork. So getting all of these together to make everything successful, it's very valuable and memorable for me."
Sona Pandey, a Permanent Resident, said: "First time I got the chance to meet the other races and other people and know about them, about their thoughts and views. And dancing together! So it's really very exciting."
And for the first time, Singapore is collaborating with a Chinese Internet TV network - PPTV - that will allow millions in China to view the parade live.... READ MORE
